Interview with IVCi Home Managing Director Richard Hollander

IVCi Marketing Director Nina Parker sat down with IVCi Home Managing Director Richard Hollander to talk about IVCi Home, a new company dedicated to providing home automation technologies to homeowners.

Could you please explain the concept of IVCi Home for our readers?

We offer customized home automation solutions for homeowners. We define "home automation" as the design and installation of state-of-the-art home theaters, whole house audio and visual systems, security, lighting, shades and drapery control, climate control, and pool and spa control. All of these systems are seamlessly integrated so that they are easy and convenient to use. An IVCi automated home is the ultimate in modern luxury and entertainment.

What can clients expect from the IVCi Home experience?

We work closely with our clients to deliver solutions that are equally as stylish and sophisticated as they are high-tech. Each client's concept of high-tech home living is unique, and this is reflected in our designs. Clients want their homes to enhance their distinctive lifestyle, and they come to us to turn their vision into a reality.

What is the IVCi Home philosophy?

We are passionate about home automation, and delivering striking designs that are flexible and manageable. What distinguishes us is our dedication to delivering exceptional, customized designs for each home. Our meticulous attention to design details means our clients can focus less on the technology, and more on simply enjoying the experience.

So your designs are easy for anyone to use?

We integrate the different systems of the home so that they are all managed through touch panels conveniently located throughout the home. The outcome is that the client has complete control, as well as instant access to climate and entertainment systems that create the mood and environment they desire.

How did IVCi Home get started?

IVCi Home began as a natural progression of the work we do at IVCi. IVCi specializes in audio and visual systems for corporations, so it was only a matter of time that we progressed into the residential market, using our own exceptionally qualified and experienced in-house resources. We have in-house project managers, CAD engineers, Crestron Certified programmers, and lead installers. In this way, we offer our IVCi Home clients the same superb level of service and support that IVCi clients have been experiencing for years.

Can you tell me about the home security and monitoring features that you offer?

We offer a variety of solutions to ensure the security of our clients' homes. One of the best security features is a lighting design called vacation mode. The system recalls the past two weeks of lighting sequencing for the entire home, and can play the sequence back while the home owner is away. In this way, the appearance of activity is suggested even when a client is not there.

Another key feature is the ability to monitor and control a home or vacation home's temperature remotely. For example, a client will receive alerts via e-mail if the temperature falls below a certain set point. IVCi Home will be instantly alerted if there is a potentially serious problem, such as the pipes freezing. We can alert the homeowner to many potential issues.

We also offer video surveillance. We set the cameras on a motion sensor that sends out an e-mail notification if movement is detected on the property. Clients have the ability to watch the kids in the backyard, monitor a baby's room, or add a "nanny cam" anywhere in the home. If clients are home alone and hear an intruder, they can view all the external cameras to view the entire property. A panic button will flash all the lights inside and outside of the home and at the same time send a distress signal to 911. Meanwhile, these systems do not visibly interfere with a home's elegant architecture.

What can we expect from IVCi Home this year?

We are going to expand our offering of high-tech simplicity. For example, clients are bringing their iPod with them to more places, and they have requested it be incorporated into their music library at home. Also, Crestron has come out with some products that offer outstanding functionality with little programming required. Additionally, the lower costs of plasmas, flat screens, and LCDs have made these products accessible to a wider audience.

Who will have access to IVCi Home custom products and services?

We are currently serving the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, but we are looking to grow our presence nationwide. To learn more about IVCi Home our readers can visit http://www.ivcihome.com/ or call 1-800-901-6583.
