We have been asked to develop the Amenity Room for Columbus Tower, a spectacular new community located in Jersey City's vibrant downtown waterfront district. Designed by world-renowned architect Costas Kondylis, Columbus Tower will redefine the standard of luxury high-rise living.
Homes will enjoy an abundance of natural light, as well as spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, the Hudson River, the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor.
The Amenity Room is a forward-thinking way for residents and families of the building to have a party, watch a movie in the screening room, or simply relax in the lounge—right on the 7th floor of the building.
The architect was very specific in the design intent and our challenges included providing:
The screening room video system is being designed with a 110" drop down screen. A sublime, ceiling mounted 3-chip LCD will provide crystal clear images. In the Billiards room an HDTV 42" plasma will hang on the wall, and in the bar, a crisp 32" LCD will round out the displays. Cable and DVD will be available through the space.
For a true cinematic experience, the audio would be the most significant element. We have planned a 5:1 system with sound insulation and acoustical solutions. All other areas in the space will have access to Sirius satellite, AM/FM terrestrial radio, iPod integration and stand-alone CD functionality.

In-ceiling speakers were specified for all areas in the space. The screening room will have powerful 5:1 full surround sound for a realistic cinematic experience. We will install a 5:1 system with acoustical insulation. We will also add a midsized subwoofer and in-wall front, center and right speakers that speak directly to the audience.
Three wall-mounted touchpads will be placed throughout the space in discreet locations. In the media room, a wall-mounted 10" touchpad device is being installed with full one-touch usability. Icon-driven, easy-to-use menus are being developed and programmed by our in-house staff of Crestron-certified programmers.
In order to achieve the desired a/v requirements, IVCi Home installed and programmed equipment from the following vendors:
Working in concert with the Montreal-based design team, the architect, the general contractor, and the owner; we will provide a wonderful community space that will give years of viewing and listening pleasure.
Design, specification, programming and installation is estimated at 20 weeks from start to finish.
